Aloha, I'm Nadine Castillo! I was born and raised here in Hawai'i on the island of O'ahu and graduated from Waipahu High School. My passion for creative media started back in intermediate when I got my first glimpse into the world of film production. Soon after, I chose to continue the path going forward in high school by joining the Marauder Media class and participating in various competitions surrounding film. Upon graduating, I knew I wanted to keep chasing after the creative field and decided to enroll at the University of Hawai'i - West O'ahu within their creative media program. I was extremely excited to hear about their new degree program! Now, I will be graduating with a Bachelor's in Creative Media with a concentration in General Creative Media. This will probably sound cliche, but if I were an artist tool, I would be imagination. I don't think I would have been so passionate about pursuing this path had I not continued to flourish my imaginative mind. The reason I'm able to create the things I can is because of how much I love to imagine all the ways I can creatively tackle any project that I am given. It's what made me realize that I wanted to be a creative and continue it as an occupation. To me, imagination is the driver of an artist and is one of the many things that enable them to be the creative individual that they are.
The concept of the social media algorithm is a fairly new idea that has yet to be thoroughly explored in this technically advanced society. However, there are accumulations of thoughts that users of social media are one the major variables as to how the algorithm works. Many speculate that the actions in which these users interact with certain aspects of social media—such as posts, hashtags, likes, comments, etc—can affect the data that is gathered and analyzed through the algorithm. In return, it reflects the user’s interest in which allows them to see content to their preferred taste. The social media algorithm has been proven to be beneficial to those who use social media as a form of communication, entertainment, and now a form of revenue that will help to grow their business. Nevertheless, it is still a system that needs to be understood and studied in order to utilize it to its fullest potential.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
