Hi! My name is Brian Taheny and I'm Majoring in Creative Media with a focus in General Creative Media. I grew up on the Westside of Oahu in Waianae where I grew up catching the Photography/Videography bug from my father who was a camera man for KHON 2 News. I attended Waianae Highschool where I learned the basics of videography from Searider Productions. I later went onto Leeward Community College at both the Waianae and Pearl City locations where I dived deeper into Photography and received my Associates Degree in the Liberal Arts. If I were an artist's tool I would be a memory card because I store all the experiences that I have had over the years and am ready to share it with the world.
For my research topic my question is “How has the utilization of social media impacted The Modern Church?”. Social media trends vary in their ways of capturing attention. For me there are many positive and negative ways in which social media is used in society today. The Modern Church utilizing social media brings to mind Genesis 50:20, which states, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.” This paper’s goal is to highlight just how social media has enhanced outreach as well as evangelism for The Modern Church, bringing about community growth as well as an increasing engagement beyond the traditional church.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
This video project features interviews with members of the church's communication department, offering an in-depth look at the role of media in modern ministry. Through personal stories and professional insights, the team shares how they use social media and other communication tools to enhance outreach, foster community engagement, and adapt to the evolving digital landscape. The video highlights the challenges and triumphs of navigating faith-based messaging in a fast-paced, ever-changing media environment, illustrating the transformative power of communication in The Modern Church.
