My name is Liyu Ma. I am a graduate of Kapiolani Community College. I came to UH West Oahu to pursue a BA degree in Creative Media. I used to envy the friends around me because they had clear goals for their future, and when I was at community college, it took me longer than others to decide my major until the last semester. Facing the huge number of majors choices and the detailed professional distinction, I feel hesitant, but I regard it as a process of self-awareness, starting from my own interests and abilities, and then referring to the employment and prospects in the real world. Finally I decided to embark on a journey of Creative Media. I love exploring color, expression & visual language, it's very challenging, but whenever I create something, I find it satisfying. If I were an artist’s tool, I would be a blank paper, because it has a lot of room for creativity and great plasticity. As long as we give imagination and vitality to blank paper, it can become anything in your mind.
The development of society and technology has created more employment directions and provided people with career choices. This research project explored the relationship between work and interest. The data is collected by the World Economic Forum (WEF), an effective and reliable non-profit international organization with the purpose of researching and discussing problems in the world economy. The Future of Jobs Report released by WEF estimates that by 2022, about one-third of repetitive occupations such as cashiers, ticket sellers, and customer service workers will be laid off, and the demand for personnel in emerging occupations will gradually increase. Thus, students should be encouraged to develop their interests and talents, focus on their professional fields, and improve their professional level. On the other hand, the communities should increase the public’s recognition of emerging industries, and the government should strengthen and establish reasonable rules and regulations to protect the rights of practitioners.
The practicum is a planned, supervised, and evaluated practice experience. The goal of the practicum is to provide an opportunity for the student to synthesize, integrate, and apply practical skills, knowledge, and training learned through courses, to gain professional experience in a professional work environment, and to work on creative media projects that revolve around the research they conducted in the prior semester.
Practicum placements are individually selected and therefore, the focus, substance, and approach of the practicum will vary, depending on the studentʻs concentration and the specific interests, research goals, and professional objectives.
