Hi, I'm Larry O'Brien from Cincinnati, Ohio. I was born with my hearing but went deaf due to ear infections before my first birthday. I had my first operation to restore my hearing at three. I faced many challenges growing up, including learning issues, speech handicaps, and being selectively mute until fourth grade. In high school, I had an ear drum reconstructed and was considered developmentally delayed. As an adult, I was diagnosed with autism, ADHD, and generalized anxiety disorder. I graduated from Colerain High School in 2009 and attended the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College from 2009 to 2012. In 2010, my father suffered a brain aneurysm and stroke, and my family lost everything. In 2012, we moved to Hawaii, and I restarted my education at Hawaii Community College. I graduated with an AA in Liberal Arts from Leeward Community College in 2017 and earned a Digital Media: Digital Video for the web degree in 2020 using art credits transferred from the University of Cincinnati. If I were an artistʻs tool, Iʻd be a paintbrush because itʻs useful in many different types of projects. I am flexible and usable in many different areas. I can be fine and detailed or broad and cover a large area of research. Paint brushes can be both physical or digital- used in daily life or the online world.
There is no greater unifying subject that cuts across traditional social ties of politics, religion, economics, and race across the globe than sports. Since the earliest days of gladiators in arenas, fans and participants have been drawn by the rules, physical skills, and common interests these sports can provide. The means of technology and communication that have evolved over the past century have helped bring new and more detailed options to consumers wanting to be part of something greater than themselves. Social media has brought about a second renaissance in sports with increased access to teams, players, and leagues once deemed too small or distant to be profitable. Social media has changed the fundamental ways sports are viewed and marketed to the public. Teams now have the ability to control the coverage they receive both on and off the field. Fans now have more options with fewer challenges and restrictions to view sports from all levels – from children’s development leagues to international professional teams with small groups of fans located around the world.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
