Hi! My name is Daphne "Mio" Acenas. I was born in Okinawa, Japan, since my dad was in the military, we moved a lot. I'm a graduate of Mililani High and Leeward Community College. My dream goal is creating an animated series of my own. One aimed towards children and one aimed towards adults. When you have a lot of pitch ideas as I have, you would have a hard time focusing on one project. The artist's tool I would be is a mechanical pencil, because I enjoy drawing characters and stories. Most often I bring a pencil and small sketchbook whenever I'm outside the house.
This research explores the rise of adult animation as a popular medium, driven by the industry's drive to push new boundaries in storytelling and art. As noted by Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, animation is not just a genre for children, but a form of film and art that can convey complex and beautiful stories. While many cartoons are intended for children, there are also adult-oriented shows that feature mature themes, graphic violence, strong language, and dark subject matter. However, the appeal of adult animation is not just in its shock value, but also in its ability to address real-life issues such as open sexuality, mental illness, and toxic relationships. The paper discusses the role of storytelling, character development, and unique themes in drawing viewers to adult animation. Whether through simplicity or detailed art styles, adult animation has become a watchable and engaging medium that continues to evolve.
The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
