My name is Abbie Reed. Iʻm a non-traditional college student, native born and raised in Waimānalo Oʻahu. My four children are all grown up, done with college and has blessed me with five energetic and curious grandchildren. I attended college after high school in 1977 at Windward Community College for a minute and left to live life. I returned to college at UH West Oʻahu to fulfill a purpose and am convinced that everything happened for a reason. I live my best life creating without limits to fulfill the purpose for which I was put on earth. If I were an artistʻs tool, I see myself as a painting palette filled with hues and tones, anxious to color and free from the limitations or normal conventions of painting between the lines.

The concept of creativity has come a long way. The Old Greeks would call those creative forces muses, other religions referred to them as God. Today people still mostly treat creativity as an aha moment outside the area of influence. However, just by looking at the creative process one can tell, that creativity and creative work is more than just that one "Aha-Moment" (insight). It is clear that generating ideas demands planning and preparation, identifying something of interest like a problem, an opportunity or a challenge, doing research. This then leads to thinking of a solution, allowing time to incubate and iterations before arriving at something “complete.” Students learn that hard work is what makes their ideas come to life and sticktuiveness is what helps them get better.
