a.k.a. Sylvan Elf
Wood Elves are sometimes called ‘Sylvan Elves’ to distinguish them from the other elven race types that many commonly confuse. Wood Elves or “aralarai” in elf are a long lived race, found most commonly in forests, and other wildernesses. In comparison with their kin, Wood Elves have a closer affinity for the natural world over civilization and have less focus on magic then other elves as a whole.
The Wood Elves are far more primitive then their kin. Their lives are geared toward the simple matter of survival and enjoyment in the woodlands. They find that this life is what gives them the greatest pleasure. The music of the Sylvan Elf is renowned for the sounds of wind thru the leaves, the howling of the wolves in the night, and the cry of the birds. And their art is inspired by the ever-changing cycle of seasons.
Personality
Wood Elves are Jovial and friendly with their own kind and those they have accepted as friends. They are guarded and suspicious of stranger, and they do not give their trust easily. Wood elves enjoy celebrating holidays and playing musical instruments.
Physical Description
The average Wood Elf stands just over 4 1/2 ft. tall, and a males weight is a slim 100 lbs., which actually places them on par with the taller Gray Elves. Consequently, they are stockier than other elves, though compared to a dwarf’s height-weight ratio they are positively skinny. Skin color is best described as earthy, being a deep brown similar to tree bark. Hair ranges from platinum blond to chestnut brown, making them the most varied of the elven races. As a Wood Elf ages, his hair becomes more auburn.
Relations
Wood Elves prefer to live apart from humankind. Conflicts with other races have caused this desire for isolation. Wood Elves tend to view lone strangers as scouts for larger groups of intruders, and large armed bands as raiders. Humans have been the worst of these invaders, and Wood Elves tend to shoot them first and ask question later. Wood Elves are likely to interrogate dwarf trespassers before deciding their fate, while they assume gnomes and halflings to be relatively harmless.
Alignment
Wood Elves are as independent as High Elves, but a strong druidic influence causes many to be neutral in alignment.
Wood Elf Lands
Large groups of Wood Elves live in the Lendelwood, the Brindonwood and the Edost Forest, but smaller bands live in almost all major forests. They sometimes live with smaller numbers of High Elves, and many individuals have homes among the fey creatures of the forest.
Religion
Wood elves primarily worship the Mother of the Elements but the Bear, the Shimmering One, the Guardian, the Great Huntress, the Coddler and the Watcher all have followers among them as well.
Languages
Wood Elves speak both High-Elven and Low-Elven and make certain to understand the language(s) of any neighbors, whom they monitor closely. They consider learning a human language a necessity because of the global influence of human cultures.
Adventures
Wood Elves are versatile and they adopt to their surrounding. They make superb fighters and archers, and sly rogues, they are skillful, rugged rangers and druids. Their wizards are practical preferring versatile spells, and their clerics are earthy folk who understand how best to use their wisdom.
