Deep Dwarf Racial Traits

    • Psion Dwarves are thinner than other dwarves but just as tough, and tend to be short tempered and reserved. +2 Constitution, -2 Intelligence.

    • Medium-sized: As medium-sized creature, Deep dwarves have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.

    • Deep Dwarf base speed is 20, and they can move at this speed even if they are wearing medium or heavy armor, or if they are carrying a medium or heavy load.

    • Darkvision: Deep Dwarves can see in the dark up to 90 ft. Darkvision is only black and white, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and hill dwarf can function just fine with no light at all.

    • Stuncunning: Stonecunning grants Deep Dwarves a +2 racial bonus on Search checks to notice unusual stonework, such as sliding walls, stonework traps, new construction, unsafe stone surfaces, shaky stone ceilings, and the like. Something that is not stone but that is disguised as stone also counts as unusual stonework. A Deep Dwarf who merely comes within 10 feet of unusual stonework can make a Search check as if he were actively searching and a deep dwarf can use the Search skill to find stonework traps as a rogue can. A Deep Dwarf can also intuit depth, sensing his approximate depth underground as normally as a human can sense which way is up. Deep Dwarves have a sixth sense about stonework, an innate ability that they get plenty of opportunity to practice and hone in their underground homes.

    • Weapon Familiarity: Dwarves may treat dwarven waraxes and dwarven urgroshes as martial weapons, rather than exotic weapons.

    • Stability: Dwarves are exceptionally stable on their feet. A dwarf gains a +4 bonus on ability checks made to resist being bull rushed or tripped when standing firmly on the ground.

    • Deep Dwarves are hardy and resistant to toxins. +3 racial bonus on saving throws against poison.

    • Deep Dwarves have an innate resistance to magic spells. +3 racial bonus on saving throws against spells and spell-like effects.

    • Deep Dwarves train in special combat techniques that allow them to fight their traditional enemies more effectively. Stone dwarves do not gain this bonus against orcs and goblinoids. +1 racial bonus on attacking rolls when fighting dark elves, troglodytes, mind flayers, and grimlocks.

  • Stonebones: A Deep Dwarf receives the Stonebone feat for free. As cave dwellers, deep dwarves are hardy and resistant. Surface-dwelling dwarves with this feat probably have some deep or stone ancestors. +1 natural AC bonus.

    • Psi-Like Abilities: psionic Deep Dwarves also have the following traits, these abilities affect only the Deep Dwarf and whatever it carries 1/day—expansion and invisibility, at a manifester level is equal to Hit Dice (minimum 3rd).

    • Naturally Psionic: Deep Dwaves gain 3 bonus power points at 1st level. This benefit does not grant them the ability to manifest powers unless they gain that ability through another source, such as levels in a psionic class.

    • Light Sensitivity: Deep Dwarves are dazzled in bright sunlight or within the radius of a daylight spell, -1 circumstance penalty to attack rolls, Search checks, and Spot checks when within sunlight, and this penalty is always present when travelling outdoors day or night.

  • +2 racial bonus on Appraise checks that are related to stone or metal items, Deep Dwarves are familiar with valuable items of all kinds.

  • +2 racial bonus on Craft checks that are related to stone or metal, Deep Dwarves are especially capable with stonework and metal.

    • Automatic Languages: Dwarven and Undercommon. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Gnome and Terran. Psion Dwarves are familiar with the languages of their enemies and of their subterranean allies.

    • Favored Class Cleric. Most dwarves encountered outside their home are warriors, but they have decent aptitudes for a fighter-mage type. A multiclass deep dwarf’s Cleric class does not count when determining whether he takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing. The deep dwarven culture extols the virtues of religion, and the vocation comes easily to deep dwarves.
