Purpose:
This EVA was a simulated emergency vehicle repair EVA. This EVA idea was submitted by one of our NASA INSPIRE students. The EVA team was tasked with conducting two trailer repairs. Hab com communicated two failures that the EVA team did not have knowledge of prior to the EVA.
Purpose as stated in pre EVA plan: Simulated cargo supply landing site. The EVA team will ride to this destination. Some time during the EVA, Hab command will inform the EVA team that they have had a cargo carrier component failure. The EVA team must then asses the situation, and attempt to resolve the problem.
Narrative:
At 2:35 Shelby, Chrissy and Shannon exited the airlock and prepped the ATVs for departure by hooking up the trailer to the hitch and securing our helmets, first aid kit and repair kit to the back of our ATVs. The EVA Team left the hab area on ATV at 2:55 after having a brief delay due to troubles starting ATV 3. The team headed south to our final destination of 12S 0518560E 4249020N. Upon simulation of picking up cargo, Hab com communicated to the EVA team that our lock pin broke on our trailer. The EVA team evaluated the situation and repaired the part using tools and 3d printed parts. Shelby filmed the repair so we can share this EVA with the NASA INSPIRE learning community tomorrow night during our pre recorded presentation to the students. The EVA team continued back to the hab and Hab com communicated another failure, broken wheel hub lock, about 1 kilometer from the Hab. Once hab com communicated this failure, Hab Com simulated loss of communication with the EVA team. The team evaluated the situation and repaired the wheel hub lock using 3d printed parts and tools. The EVA team then headed back to the hab.
