Journalist Report
03/02/2013 Thursday (Mission Day 8)
Ayako Ono
On Saturday, one week after our arrival, we had a media day during
which hosted three members of the media: two journalists and one
cameraman. Today is different from the other days! We still started
with morning music as usual. Yesterday’s bacon and music were the
topics during breakfast. Also, we saw the pretty night sky without
moonlight. We could see galaxies including the Milky Way. Moreover, we
saw Orion nebula, Jupiter and its moons via the telescope at the Musk
Observatory of MDRS. Star gazing is one of crew members’ hobbies, and
it seems that everybody’s well-being was increased. At 9 a.m., the
media arrived. We did a quick tour in the Hab. The experiment of
Habitability Project focusing on Nature Sounds was performed in this
morning for two participants. Data was precisely collected, although
one participant was re-scheduled for tomorrow because of the time
delay in addition to technical errors of physiological measurements.
There was video shooting for the experiment, Greenhouse, a meeting of
geology, and lunch time. In this afternoon, an EVA was scheduled for
all crew members because of the video shooting. The main focus was
geologic sampling images and two members were switched during the EVA
because of the issue of numbers of EVA suits and rules to work at the
Hab. This Saturday night will be a Mountain Feast party. Dinner was
Pizza by Matt. There was also an appetizer as original potato tips
with black beans vegetable dip and spinach cheese dip. The atmosphere
of Crew 125 and social factors are good so far. Melissa is
contributing to keep a good atmosphere with positive words and
encouragements in an attitude of fairness.
When Volker listened to a guitar sound from speakers at MDRS after
dinner, he felt that he wanted to bring his guitar. So, I took a
musical instrument belongs to MDRS, McNally Strumstick to the table.
Trial to use the two strings (one string was missing for some reason)
musical instruments was started. Hans offered musical keyboards on
iPad. Watching movie was originally scheduled for the Mountain Feast
party, but the musical trial was supposed to be better by the
commander, and we enjoyed it. Four members in six choose instruments
in the comparison between fresh fruit, orange. Open door policy, that
I have been doing, was stated by Csilla today.
