Science Report: Csilla Orgel/Crew Geologist
Date: 25/02/2013
Today we (Hans, Melissa, Csilla) made the first EVA which was related to geological observations. Actually, the EVA was a field reconnaissance mission to identify interesting target locations for farther investigations (concretion and endolith studies). We went 1.5 km south from the HAB to visit an inverted channel. We found big boulders along the inverted channel, which had desert varnish on their surface and cryptobiotic crust as well (12 S 0518275 4249188). During the EVA we also found three different-looking concretion types, which are probably originated from the Brushy Basin member and Dakota Sandstone Formation. Their size, shape and distribution are different. I called the area (12 S 0518352 4249279): Concretion paradise. I will coming back for more detailed analysis.
