Commander Report

Crew 121 is beginning to look forward to going home and sleeping in their own beds and eating
non-dehydrated food, but they are also sad that they will soon be leaving this incredible planet.
This morning the crew slept in until it was time to get up and listen to classical music for
Carolyn’s study at 8:30. Then the crew members were free to do their own thing until noon when they
began suiting up for their last EVA. This was a much shorter EVA than usual, but the EVA team was
able to find some interesting rocks. Also, joining the team on their EVA were the two little
dinosaurs that Crew 121’s biggest fan, Katia, sent them to take care of while on Mars. The EVA team
returned to the Hab in the early afternoon and then the crew was given time to catch up on things
such as writing a summary of their research, writing reports for Mission Support, cooking, and
cleaning all of the caked on Martian mud off their boots. Eric was busy working on transferring his
Actigraph data over to the computer, and is still struggling to get the data off. Today has been a
day of ethnic food for the Crew 121’s meals. The crew had burritos for lunch and will soon be
enjoying beef and broccoli stir fry for dinner. Carolyn, who will be turning 20 tomorrow, shared an
Interesting fact with the crew tonight, “did you know when someone turns 20 on Mars, they are
actually 21 in Earth years?” I think she is trying to hint at something here…
This evening the crew was asked what they missed most about life on Earth. Below are their responses.
Carlos:” I miss my puppy, Hennessey! She is a playful pitbull puppy who always seems to brighten my
day.”
Amy: “I miss my boyfriend, Yo Sep. I can’t wait to see him when we return on Saturday.”
Noah: “I miss playing my guitar and keyboard.”
Carolyn: “I don’t miss anything! I am moving to Mars permanently! But in all seriousness, I do miss
being able to take long hot showers.”
Eric: “I second Carolyn in missing being able to take normal showers.”
Gisela: “I miss real food!”
Chelsea: “I miss my awesome Australian Shepherd Jake, my two cats (Oliver and Molly), and my soft
bed the most!”
Overall, Crew 121 has enjoyed one last slow day on Mars before they get busy cleaning up the Hab
and preparing to leave Mars tomorrow. Tonight the crew will be finishing up the last day of games
for Noah’s study and will then head to bed early so they are rested up for the busy day they will be
having tomorrow.
