Purpose:
EVA 8B
Objective/Procedures:
The purpose of this EVA was to evaluate the use of an emergency ladder for EVA crew members to go up and go down a hill, approximately 10 feet tall.
Narrative:
EVA 8B – Emergency Ladder and EVA Connector
Participants:
• Humberto De las Casas (EV5), Saul Trujillo (EV4)
Timeline:
• 02:00pm – EVA connector assessment
• 02:15pm – Emergency ladder ascent and descent
Results:
This test successfully demonstrated that an emergency ladder can be used for EVA ascent or descend procedures. During this EVA, the crew was also able to appreciate the challenges with working with gloves when they mated/demated a mockup of an ISS EVA connector.
