Water Notes And Comments:
Water tank is full of sand. and especially in the tank that the portable water is in, the metal has rusted. THe bottom of the tank i sfull of rust, and it does not seem like a healthy thing. Which leads to the question, how often is there a water quality control here? And, is there any chance we can make one soon, or a way we can test it here? Another thing is The power cord that is connected to the water pump, pumping water to the indor tank, needs isolation, or some isolating tape close to the plug in part. Also, the technic used for getting up the water pump in the portable water tank that is new, and used to fill up the stationary tank, is a not so good technique.. which was pulling it up by the power cord. It would perhaps be better to get some sort of stick with a hook and pull it up like that.

Working ATVs: Red Honda, 3 and 4
Not working ATV’s: 1 and 2
Fuel instructions on usage of ATV’s by the previous crew did not take place. Veteran MDRS members of crew 124 gave instructions on usage in field. We did some test driving, every crewmember got familiar with the three different kinds of ATV’s at MDRS.
Crewmember Dennis Oltheten, with education in car engineering, looked at non-working ATVs by trying to start and looking under the seat. The battery on ATV 1 is not properly connected due to a broken positive terminal and ATV 2 does not start and gives strange sounds in electrical circuit under seat. Fuse is still intact. Sounds like a relay that is broken, not like the starter. No further investigation permitted.
Another thing Dennis observed is that at most of the ATVs have the fuel lever set on reserve. He would not recommend this for it gives access to the bottom of the fuel tank which can be contaminated with dirt. We would like your thoughts about this subject.
Also we would like to know if, and if yes to what degree we are allowed to do small repairs on the ATV’s? Are we allowed to reconnect a battery or swap batteries?
Furthermore we would like to know how to refuel the ATV’s and where new fuel can be acquired.
