Commander Report
02/14/2013
Kent Nebergall
Morning was spent getting caught up on EVA reports and planning for afternoon EVA. We have decided that we are going to try to pre-plan as many EVAs as possible and try to run them in the mornings where possible. This will allow afternoons for lab work and reporting. We’ve been spending our mornings training or dealing with engineering issues, but things are starting to get more settled.
Today’s pedestrian EVA involved Tristan, Ase, Audrey, and myself. We focused on endoliths around 517964 4250069. On the return route, we went around the hillsides of the and the southern University Rover Challenge area (from 518269 425022 to 518287 4250472). Four endolith sterile samples were taken and two more “practice” samples were gathered for MDRS lab use.
Paula is currently setting up the observatory and will hopefully start observations tonight.
We will set up temperature/light logging devices in the greenhab tomorrow. Both are Arduino devices (one Paula built and one I built). We will set the recording interval to 10 seconds or more and will hopefully run for the rest of the rotation.
As we were beginning to submit reports, the terminal for HALp went to character mode and is unresponsive. Terminal sessions via laptops are still working, and we still have Internet.
