Commander Report
02/16/2013
Kent Nebergall
Today was spent with Paula, April, Tristan, Audrey, and myself (Kent) on ATV EVA north and slightly west. April is doing the science
and EVA reports. Dennis and Ase stayed behind to do lab setup and specific research on the samples found. Dennis also set up the
microscope for sample analysis.
The plan for tomorrow is a split EVA. Kent and April will go to 518780 4253361 to drill some gypsum and other deposits located on the
pre-sim geology training EVA. These are fairly close to the very top of the canyon, so not a lot of climbing is involved. Dennis and
Ase will check out a fault they identified as part of the Gale Crater study, and also evaluate a spot further down the canyon. If we can rejoin each other we will. Also Paula plans to join one of the EVAs.
We have a high probability of snow on Tuesday, so we are rushing through any EVA work that involves climbing or long range field
work while the ground is still dry. We may be stuck doing lab work and reports a fair amount of next week, and we want to be prepared if that happens.
