HealthSafety Report

Notes:
Last night, while I was cooking dinner, a drop of gratin potato fell
on my right feet and I got
burned. It was a minor burn but I was in pain for a couple of minutes.
Today we once again woke up in good physical and emotional shape. Even
though we are in Mars, we
always wake up with the feeling we are in a strange-beautiful scenario.
At 11 am the Greenhab engineer and I went on the first EVA using the
ATVs. I strongly recommend a
sort of connection device between the ATV keys and the EVA suit
because when driving the ATV I
realized that it’s very difficult to manipulate the devices such as
GPS, radio and camera with the
gloves on. The key, being a small item, could be lost if we cannot
grab it properly.
Safety comes first so we cannot lose the ATV keys for anything in the
world…or in Mars. The road is
very uneven and unfortunately I lost some parts of my tripod and I
dropped my map several times.
Maybe if there were some kind of board with pins to hold tools such as
GPS, maps and so on, things
won’t fall from the ATV.
After I came back to the Hab, the EVA engineer complained about
shoulder ache from the exercise we
all did yesterday. So I gave him an ibuprofen and I put a band aid
with gel pad to relieve the pain
quicker. I told him to let me know how he was feeling the rest of the day.
At 4 pm the XO, EVA engineer, Greenhab engineer and I went to the
Antartica Pile to make the
stretcher for our next week EVA simulation. While using the arc saw,
the EVA engineer got a wooden
splint in his right thumb. I got back with him to the Hab, removed the
splint with surgical
tweezers, applied medical alcohol, an antibacterial cream and finally
put a band aid. I also asked
him about his shoulder pain and he told he was feeling so much better.
The XO told me he had a
little scurvy inside his mouth. I gave him half of Vitamin C because
we don’t have lemon to eat
directly. I hope he’ll feel better tomorrow. Does Mission Support know
how I can cure scurvies
without talking any more vitamin C pills?
