Commander's Report

Today's activities included a 4 person familiarization ride on ATV's as the weather had improved. Leading this ATV scenario was myself with crew members Nora Swisher, Diane Turnshek and April Davis making up the numbers. We headed North towards the quarry for the new drivers to judge the handling abilities of these machines and to access road conditions. Water, mud, ice and snow were still in evidence along the entire route. More snow coverage than expected greeted us on arrival at our destination. We continued on foot to a suitable location and found evidence of petrified trees in
amoungst the bare patches of earth! Snow and ice conditions prevented us from descending into the ravine associated with this location. Many geological features were observed for future reference. The drive back proved much more muddy and was pretty self evident with the mud splatters on our helmets. Oh well, more cleaning!
