Melissa Battler
Today was our last day with media visitors. This morning the Belgian
film crew returned to MDRS to
interview Ayako and have her build and demonstrate a “martian” zen
garden. We’ve definitely enjoyed
teaching the documentary makers and photographers about our research,
but there’s a feeling of peace
now that it’s “just us” once again. In the afternoon, Volker, Hans,
Csilla and I completed sampling
for my sulfate study during an EVA along Coal Mine Road (toward
Factory Butte). We found
the gypsum samples we were looking for, and also happened across some
gorgeous concretions! It’s
hard to believe our time at MDRS is beginning to come to a close
already. At this point we’ve
collected nearly all the geological samples we need, and the only
things that remain to be done are
two final EVAs for Hans and Csilla’s studies, a de-briefing for
Ayako’s study, and labwork for
Melissa and Csilla’s studies. It will be a busy last few days on Mars!
