Purpose:
Big fault that cuts of the NE side of the arm of the canyon. Try to find more structural features in surrounding rocks, as result of stress from the big fault. Get more experience with the ATVs for the investigation that Audrey is performing.
Narrative:
After a exhilarating morning with a moody rover and a nice lunch, we headed for the fault as our first stop for this EVA. The road was bumpy, perfect for the ATV study of Audrey. We will have good experience for her investigation. When we got to the cross section at 519889 4251735 we were supposed to head east but the road was washed away. Dennis went searching and found it some dozens of meters further so we could continue to reach our way point. When we got there we walked to the fault. Since the topography goes up a little we could not see it cutting in the canyon until the last moment. We walked further up the NE side of the canyon arm to the SE. It gave a nice view of the canyon and a look at the changing landscape. A plain with a canyon smoothly changes to a landscape were the valley dominates and the remains of the former plain now creates the hills of the scenery. Dennis got his fracture measurements done and the rest of the crew searched for endoliths and found some iron encrusted trace fossils. The walk back made us realize that we had walked further than planned. We drove back to the hab because the sun was about to set and it was getting cold already.
