laterPM
Purpose:
Our preEva plan was "To plant poles, improve calibration and distance measurement". We completed all the expectations.
Narrative:
Yesterday we made some measurement of the value of the RSSI (received signal strenght indicator) depending on the distance. But when we came back to the hab to analyse the data, we noticed that they seemed pretty weird and sometimes the RSSI was decreasing with the distance despite it is supposed to inscrease. So we realized our measurement weren't accurate at all.
This morning, we made some tests and noticed that the transmission works better if the antennas are oriented in a specific direction and if there is nothing around.
So Adrien, Nicolas and François left the station to re-start the measurements. We went next to the telescope to be far from the Hab Wifi (which works at a frequency close to the Xbee) and get power supply for the computer.
We used poles from the Antarctica pile and plant them at 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 meters from the Xbee connected to the computer. We also measured it on smaller distances to improve the accuracy. We oriented the antennas and made sure we were as far from the Xbees as we could. Nicolas placed one of the Xbee at the previous spots while Adrien asked several times (to compute the mean, we didn't do it the previous day) the Xbee connected to the computer its RSSI and François wrote down the values collected by the computer.
We went back to the station, we will analyze the measurement later but they already seem way better than yesterday.
