CORENTIN LIBER - COMMANDER & CREW GEOLOGIST
Corentin Liber is a second year graduate student in Geographic Sciences at the Université Catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve. He earlier studied Physics at the same university beforereorienting. He graduated high school in 2007 with a specialization in Greek, English and Sciences.Corentin’s deep interest in sciences has led him to a great number of experiences in various fields. Most recently he has participated in the theme-based shared flat “Kot Astro” for 4 years, first as member and then as president. The group’s ongoing project is the promotion of astronomy and space sciences in Louvain-la-Neuve through the organization of a great variety of activities such as exhibitions, conferences, weekend workshops, presentations, etc. He has also had the opportunity to work as a student at the Royal Observatory of Belgium and the Eurospace Center.
NICHOLAS ROELANDT - XO
I was born on October the 26th, 1991, in Belgium. I went easily through High School, with options in mathematics and sciences. Before going to University, I decided to live one year abroad. I went to Crow High School in Oregon, where I was in senior year. I experienced a firefighting training and I played American football and baseball in the school team. I came back to Belgium and decided to study engineering at the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL) . During my first year, I participated in a national programming competition and finished third. The next year, I played in the university show as one of the leading actors.
I am always trying to find new interesting things to do. This is why, this year (my third year of engineering, last year of bachelor) I am planning to perform a mission in which we will simulate a colonization on Mars. I am also part of the UCL teaching staff : I teach a class of 24 students who are in their second year of engineering.
I am studying mechanics and electricity, and I am planning to do a master’s degree in mechatronics.
BENJAMIN PEETERS - GREENHAB & HSO
Benjamin Peeters is doing a master in electrical engineering at the Catholic University of Leuven (UCL). Benjamin is also in charge of a "kot-à-projet" (an association composed of 8 to 12 students who live together in a community housing) whose aim is to promote ecology. In addition, he is a tennis instructor. As a student, Benjamin Peeters is employed by the EPL (Polytechnic School of Louvain) to supervise courses of the faculty.
ADRIEN RUSSEL - CREW ENGINEER
Adrien Russel is a second year Master student in science in computer science and engineering at the UCL (Université Catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve).
He previously completed his Bachelor in the same university with a computer science major and a civil engineering minor.
Currently Adrien is also a teaching assistant for an informatics course for the first year Bachelor students in Engineering.
Adrien has always had some attraction to the stars, when he was younger he followed astronomy courses at volkssterrenwacht Urania and the subject of his actual master thesis is automatic image processing of pictures of Titan taken by the Cassini mission. His interests in various fields also led him to be part of two different theme-based shared flats during his stay at the UCL: "Nederlands Kot" promoting the Dutch culture and language and "Kot Méca" offering a wide variety of tools and help for small and bigger repairs.
FRANCOIS KINARD - CREW ASTRONOMER
I’m Francois Kinard. I'm 23 years old and I follow Physics courses at Universite Catholique de Louvain in Belgium. This year I’ll achieve my master’s degree and the subject I major in is cosmology about universe models. Since my years in
secondary school, I already wanted to explain the big issues such as where does our universe, how works its evolution, etc. That’s the reason why I’m fond of
physics and in particular of cosmology. Moreover in my sense, physics is the fundamental how these great philosophical issues that we ask us.
BENOIT HESPEL - JOURNALIST
I’m Benoît Hespel, I’m 22 years old and I follow physics courses at UCL. This year I’ll achieve my master’s degree and the subject I major in is particle physics and cosmology. When I was still a child, I already wanted to explain the natural phenomenon and to be able to answer most scientific questions that we encounter in our everyday life. That’s the reason why I’m fond of physics. Moreover in my opinion, physics is the fundamental science in the sense that it contains the most beautiful theories that explain how the world works. There is still a long way to go to achieve the main goal of physicists, that is having a unified theory of all the 4 fundamental interactions, but I think it will happen one day.
