Brief Narrative of Field Mission Results:
EVA #1 The planned EVA for this morning was cancelled by me for crew training. An afternoon EVA then commenced with three crew members including myself to survey and locate all BLM roads north of the Hab. To our great surprise, we only found one road. All others either do not exist or were not visible from the one road we were on. Further investigation is needed.
EVA#2: None
Engineering/Hab maintenance: Daily engineering checks completed.
Packages delivered to the Hab: None
Plans for tomorrow: Two EVA’s to search for and locate missing BLM roads north, northwest and northeast of the Hab.
Support requests: Hab needs a backup 5 kw + Flat Rated minimum output generator.
Miscellaneous: I cancelled this morning’s EVA as I felt that the crew needed more training in map reading and using the GPS handhelds. Ad hock instruction was given by Dan Wilcox who did a great job in explaining the coordinate system referencing NAD 27 mapping technics.
My engineer Habib Palenfo and I started the small gas generator this morning (for 10 minutes) outside of the power plant shed by request of Mars Society management. The gas generator is fully functional for very small operational requirements.
Crew spirits remain high and are looking forward to rest of the week.
