Brief Narrative of Field Mission Results:
EVA #1 Location 1.7kms do east to find and locate petrified log mentioned in an earlier eva. Again this log was not found, but in looking for this specific item found another petrified log of a different size and shape was located. GPS coordinates were taken along with photos. Also, their continuing search in this area is producing quite a vast array of geological features within easy walking distance of the Hab.
EVA#2: Almost following in the footsteps of the previous EVA, this two man crew took two ATV’s to outside the ‘NO Fly Zone’ and then proceeded on foot to 3.2 kms east of the Hab. The whole area is a geological rich location again, within easy reach of the Hab. GPS coordinates were logged along with stunning photographs to complete this mission scenario. At 3.2 kms one crewman noticed a fluctuating backpack fan, advised the other crewman and they both returned to their ATV’s in an expeditious manner in case of a backpack failure. Subsequently, both returned via the authorized ATV route to the Hab and returned without further incidence.
Engineering/Hab maintenance: Daily engineering checks completed. One 4wd ATV was restarted and serviced to confirm the reverse gear was operational. ATV and found completely serviceable.
Packages delivered to the Hab: None
Plans for tomorrow: Crew determination is dictating that we find this very elusive petrified tree from an earlier EVA. A three person group, entirely focused with all available resources will proceed tomorrow morning as this will be our last chance as mission end nears. Wish us luck!
Support requests: None
Miscellaneous: Life here is taking on a routine of its own, everyone gets on very well, and absolutely no complaints about the food, but all are aware that their stay here is coming to an end.
Crew spirits remain high despite looking forward to returning to Home and Family.
