Commander Report
02/27/2013
Volker Maiwald
We began the day with planning of the coming EVAs and experiments
regarding Galle crater as well as
conducting more human factors experiments, i.e. blood pressure
measurements. In parallel there was
some engineering work done regarding the micro-harvester mock-up of
DLR and Matt's experiment of
recording astronaut movement with the rover.
After a quick lunch, mostly consisting of left-overs, we began
preparing for the EVA of the
afternoon, directed at a new location east of MDRS. After making the
suits more comfortable and
save, at 15:20, the crew took the ATVs and left for their target
destination. Surprisingly the EVA
crew, i.e. Cmdr Battler, Rover Engineer Cross and HSO Van t'woud were
able to see the habitat from
their location, which also helped with the communication. The EVA was
very successful and produced
a pleasing amount of samples for further research. A bit later than
planned, at 18:30, the EVA team
returned for the obligatory reporting and post-EVA activities.
We are still on MArs and we like it! :-)
