Commander Report
01/07/2013
Chelsea Iwig
As of today, Crew 121 has spent a total of ten days on Mars, which means that there are only
four more days to go. The crew started the day off with Carlos’ advanced workout at 7:30am. Many of
the crew members woke up feeling tired and a little rough from allergies, but after the workout,
they all reported feeling much better. The crew went on to eat a quick breakfast and then half of
the crew members went out to work in the GreenHab for Amy’s study. Once all of the crew members had
returned to the Hab, Carolyn began playing Jazz music while the crew cleaned up around the Hab to
prepare for the arrival of the Chinese film crew. The Hab is looking great - even better then when
Crew 121 arrived!
Once Carolyn had finished playing her music and taken the crew’s blood pressure and heart rate,
Carlos already had a delicious lunch of tacos on the table. After lunch, the crew continued to tidy
up the Hab upstairs until it was time for Carlos to go pick up the Chinese film crew and bring them
out to the Hab. Crew 121 gave the film crew a tour of the Hab and began making potato soup and a
chick pea salad for dinner. The film crew interviewed members of crew 121 while dinner was cooking
and then sat down for dinner on Mars. Plans for filming tomorrow were made and the film crew made
their way back to their hotel in Hanksville. They will be returning at 8am tomorrow morning to begin
filming their show for Chinese National tv.
Tonight Crew 121 will be very busy preparing for tomorrow by researching facts for the interview
and sending the film crew video that Crew 121 has recorded since arriving here on Mars per their
request. Last night the crew finally was able to make it out to the Observatory to view Jupiter and
a few interesting stars. The crew was in awe of how many stars could be seen out here where there is
no light pollution. The crew is looking forward to making it out to the observatory again before the
end of their mission.
Overall, it was a very busy day on Mars, but it was also a very enjoyable one for the entire crew.
Hopefully the crew will be able to get to bed early tonight so they will be all rested and ready to
go when the film crew arrives since tomorrow will be an even busier day. With an EVA planned and a
day full of interviews and data collection, Crew 121 to be at their peak tomorrow morning.
