We started the day off at the usual 7 am with some more epic music from our Geologist that included Florence & The Machines, The Black Keys, Gwen Stefani, Death Cab for Cutie and others. Then we had a wonderful breakfast and fresh coffee. The sub team that I’m apart of cooked breakfast that included mini-egg omelets and mock cinnamon rolls with the left over pie dough.
After breakfast we checked the weather report and saw that rain was going to be scattered throughout the day, so we went on the first eva of the day. The eva was for our Geologist Santiago's research project that required different rock samples for a rock analysis. I was also able to work on my research project, communication with ham radios, since this eva was the farthest that we will travel on Mars. My project is to increase the distance of communication on Mars. So Santiago, Brad, Jennifer, and I went out to a place called Candor Chasma J. It is a place where a river once flowed and there are a lot of awesome rocks. It was cool to see the beauty that nature formed over time.
Then we returned to hab just as the wind started to blow furiously. Also upon the return we also found that Kyle and Liz made dinner and desert. The dinner was vegetable and rice stew, perfect to replenish your strength. Then for desert they made homemade carrot cake. Today we did not have the cooking challenge, but cooked together. We have copious amounts of fun cooking every day.
After dinner everyone worked on their research projects some more, until the next eva. However, the rain arrived when the eva was supposed to take place, so we continued to work on research projects and then started supper. I made pie dough, while Brad made mashed potatoes and vegetables, then we combine them to make vegetable pot pie. And for desert Brad made epic brownies. Later we had a conversation about we learned today, which consisted of how to be self-sustainable and how talc rock is formed.
Until next time,
Journalist,
James
