Time Slot:
earlyPM
Purpose:
The primary scientific objective of the EVA was to search for and
sample sulfate-bearing layers within the Summerville formation for
mineralogical analysis; this objective was met.
Matt went on EVA instead of Csilla.
Narrative:
Melissa, Hans, and Matt travelled by ATV to reach the Summerville
formation. We parked the ATVs by some mountain lion tracks. We went
into the canyon by foot.
Melissa collected 2 samples of what appeared to be salt deposits, and
1 sample of what appeared to be gypsum.
Hans took photos for comparison with hi-res satellite data, and kept
an eye out for mountain lions.
Matt took videos of Melissa conducting her sample collection to
determine ways in which a robotic assistant could improve the
efficiency of the human explorer.
