Poor Cal. It's hard, having your sciency worldview shaken by all these magicy things. It's hard, and nobody understands.
Cal probably isn't surprised at the existence of zombies. The society of Hereton seems to be integrating them rather well, so I don't think it's any sort of secret. Unusual, yes, but known, particularly to science. It still doesn't exactly help Cal's current state of mind, though.
This str'p originally had panels 1 and 2 shifted down, with a different panel 1 where Cal told Vee to be careful and Jane said her first line (which I almost forgot to add back in) from off-panel. However, that was removed because I found that the current panel 3 needed to be shown, whereas that panel was almost entirely useless.
