Commentary

NOTE: As of September 16, 2014, this str'p is officially non-canon, mainly due to extremely out-of-character (in retrospect) behavior from all characters involved (maybe excluding the DBS) and a rather grim punchline (even if I didn't declare it non-canon, I would say that the DBS is making fun of it). It's unfortunate, especially for the first appearance of three recurring characters (yes, I count the DBS as a character), but I have to do this.

So much new stuff...

First of all, I should comment on the conclusion reached in this str'p: It certainly fits into the Daily Bullsh*t (DBS), because that's what it is. I found out after I wrote the script for this str'p that it's actually the other way around - cancerous areas generally have less oxygen than other areas. I'm not sure why. Maybe the cancer cells use more of it faster, but don't quote me on it. I'm in no way a doctor.

So, to less medical subjects! This str'p, as mentioned, has a lot of new stuff. The include Ella and Cal (who we will get to know better over time; for now, let's just describe them as scientists at Asafei Science, where Cal is the boss), the Asafei Science lab, the DBS, and the official name of the location for Com'c: Hereton.

Huh... I thought I'd have a lot more to write about.

Oh right.

Design

Ella's design was a little annoying to deal with today (I designed both characters yesterday based on my scribbles, but had to tweak a little today). The problem was that her hair doesn't really look feminine enough. Obviously I'm well aware that many women have non-feminine or even masculine hair, but given the art style of Com'c it's one of the only ways to make gender obvious. I ended up letting her have a somewhat masculine look, but wearing lipstick. Sorry if anyone had trouble telling her gender before they read the title or commentary.

Cal wasn't much of a problem. He's pretty straight-forward in his design, with his three standing hairs and a cool mustache.

The Asafei logo took some time to make, mostly related to pixel numbers and symmetry, etc. I don't know why I bothered to make it symmetrical in relation to the panel, since it logically shouldn't be affected by it.

The Daily Bullsh*t logo is cooler than intended. It looks a little like a double helix, IMO, even though it is based on the letters D, B and S. The DBS uses Comic Sans MS, a.k.a. the most hated font ever because of overuse. This is because I thought it would fit visually, but also because the informality of the font fits the DBS.
