Clara Senior Spotlight

Clara Beatty

You are Masterman’s Student Body President, what would you say is something you’ve done in that position that you are most proud of?

I’m most proud of the period product dispensers because I think that they are something that we will use for years to come and they were a long time coming. I know a lot of other people tried to get this started but we finally got brand new dispensers and regularly restocked products. It required lots of collaboration and creativity, but it’s so worth it.

What has been the greatest challenge that you have faced in this position?

Being diplomatic and having to see both sides of a lot of situations. Having to be a mediator and having to be the voice of the students to the School Advisory Council or to the administration but also be a voice for those people to the students.

If there was one thing you could change about Masterman, what would it be?

I think funding, in general. I think we could use really nice new bathrooms, funding for our instruments and our books. I think everything could be supplemented a bit more if we had more resources.

What has been your favorite memory at Masterman?

I’ve really enjoyed spirit week every year. Especially last year when I got to be in a lip sync. I just feel like any time there is an event that SGA pulls off with minimal hiccups that is a victory for me. Especially when it is something that brings the whole school together like International Day or the potluck. Also doing the loud speaker announcements every morning.

What was your favorite goal that you saved as the goalie for the girls soccer team?

There was one that was a direct kick against Franklin Towne and it was their senior night. I saved that one and it got us into overtime and Tori scored the winning goal and we beat them on our senior night. That was the only year we’ve beaten Franklin Towne home, away, and in the playoffs.

What has been you favorite class at Masterman?

That’s difficult because I’ve loved so many of my classes but I think I’d have to say AP Lit with Mr. Roache. Everyone knows that I can yap about books for so long. Sometimes being in an English class can make you hate books because you have to read them for school but this class has made me love books more.

What is your favorite spirit week event?

Lip Sync is so impressive and I love to see everyone pull out all the stops.

What are you looking forward to most in college?

I think I am looking forward to having resources and taking classes that I am really interested in. I am also really excited to meet new people.
