The style of psychotherapy that I specialize in and have been teaching over the last ten years or so is called Mindfulness Therapy, and mindfulness-based psychotherapy is, in my opinion, the best available method for working with anxiety and depression. It teaches you how to change the relationship that you have with your mind, with your emotions, with your thoughts, with your memories, including traumatic memories.


It's very important to learn how to essentially sit with these emotions and thoughts without becoming overwhelmed by them. That's the most central part of mindfulness training: to be able to form a non-reactive relationship with your mind so that you don't become overwhelmed by your emotional reactions.


When you can establish a relationship with your emotions and thoughts and traumatic memories, then you're in a position to be able to help those emotional reactions heal and change substantially, and that's the second part of Mindfulness Therapy, learning how to heal anxiety and depression so that they are no longer triggered by thoughts or experiences.
