On Wednesday morning May 15th the BBC enjoyed a plentitude of birds at the Kincardine Lagoons. We saw the earliest and latest returning warblers, Yellow-rumps and Blackpolls respectively, so all warblers in between were possible. The Blackpoll lingered in the trees giving great views. With 30 some members strung out on the trails we covered a lot of ground simultaneously. When a Yellow-throated Warbler was found many of us knew almost instantly because of a post on our messenger service. A hike that was moving along so leisurely suddenly upped the pace and hustled to the trestle where the rare bird was seen. Unfortunately the bird was not seen again. 51 species were seen at the lagoons including 17 different warblers. The leaders toured us past a mennonite farm with an active Purple Martin house. Martins have become rare and this is the only site I presently know to see them. Susan then entertained us at her summer residence in Fisherman's Cove. They provided a BBQ lunch with all the fixings for the whole crew. The dinner show was also tremendous as orioles, grosbeaks, finches and hummingbirds buzzed around Susan's yard. After a leisurely social dinner in the backyard we took a walk to see the Bank Swallow colony. Our last stop of the day was at the Greenock Swamp's known haunt of the Cerulean Warbler. The Cerulean was a no show but several other warblers were observed. The finishing touch was multiple Bobolinks flying over a grassy field doing their R2D2 impersonations. Thanks to all who came out. Following is a list of the 77 species seen. Thanks to Marilyn for keeping eBird checklists. Providing such a wonderful meal takes the cake. Well done ladies. What a great day of memories
