HOTSPOTS

Bruce County has about 300 klms of Lake Huron shoreline plus numerous other small lakes.Thousands of acres of farm land is used for cash crops and pasture but some land has been abandoned and is reverting back to forest. Many small wood lots of mixed hardwoods are scattered throughout the farmland. There are several extensive swamps and a few specialty features like alvars, bogs and fens. With this great diversity of habitats many species of birds can be found here. In fact 319 birds have been officially recorded in the Bruce. Here are some hotspot suggestions as to the best time of year to visit, entry points and birds to expect there. This work is in progress so please excuse any errors you find or even better inform me .
