Hi Everyone,
We had a great day today, collecting 50 species of birds, 13 of which were shore birds, a new summer high for us. Thank you, Eric for once again providing a very successful day for us, and a very successful shorebirding summer. We enjoy your passion for shorebirds and your knowledge of where to find them. You are much appreciated by the "Bruce Birders”, as you like to call us. Hopefully, you will be able to join us in one of our future bird watching outings. Thank you, Eric for the good times.
We added two more birds to our year list - a Black-bellied Plover and a Sanderling, at Wildwood Reservoir in Harrington. One of the entertaining moments of the day was watching a Merlin going through the lagoons, trying to capture shorebirds and swallows. In spite of great effort and time spent, he/she was unsuccessful in the chase. It was interesting that a shorebird being chased, was faster than the pursuer. The missing birds in action today were the American Golden Plovers who had been there 2 previous, days before.
The sky was overcast with light rain throughout the day. The temperatures varied between 14 and 16 c.
Fred
