Hi Everyone,
Thanks James for leading us on a great hike today. We enjoyed the stories you told us as we looked for birds and the places you took us to. The day started slowly but then the birds seem to find us. We saw a total of 52 species. That is an interesting comparison to our OFO Ottawa trip of 3 days of birding where we saw about 76 species of birds.
An interesting side show took place along with our birding. We got involved in the Monarch Butterfly migration. It was great to see them in such numbers recovering somewhat after the devastation they suffered last year.
Twenty-five of us enjoyed the hike.
Some of our feature birds were Red-throated Loon, Horned Grebe, White-winged Scoter, Surf Scoter, American Pipit, American Redstart, Pine Siskin and Lincoln Sparrow. Some Savannah Sparrows put on a great show for us.
Temperatures ranged between 13 and 19 C, with some wind at times, and mostly overcast skies.
