We had 26 enthusiastic birders out today in comfortable and at some times, sunny weather. We changed the trip plan. dropping the Exeter lagoons for the Kincardine Lagoons to see if we could cash in on the Ross’s Goose and Snow Goose reported there, yesterday. And we did! We lucked out in the Tundra Swan department sighting over 2,000 of them, with most on Greenway Road. The ever reliable Tufted Titmouse did show up in good numbers at the Pinery VC, but one of our target birds, known as the elusive Red-headed Woodpecker, remained elusive and refused to come out and play. By the end of the day, 46 species of birds were seen. Not bad, considering half our time was spent travelling by car.
Thank you to the staff of the Pinery who opened their VC for us, fed the birds for our entertainment, so we could enjoy our lunch watching nature.
Weather was at times sunny with temperatures varying between 1 and 8 C. Winds were noticed in the open areas.
