A small group of BBC members lucked out to some gentle winter weather and good looks at the traditional feeder birds. Cardinals and Chickadees were singing their spring songs at many of the stops. Snow Buntings and Horned Larks were taking full advantage of the exposed roadsides because most fields are still deep in snow. Waterfowl at the harbor really are like sitting ducks and can be observed close up. The little puddle being kept open by a bubbler is the only open water for miles. Six or seven species have been sharing the pool for the past few weeks. The greatest harbinger of spring was a lone female Red-winged Blackbird I saw mixed in with a flock of Cedar Waxwings. Unfortunately this happened just before the group convened.
