Hi Everyone,
We had a good day birding. The sun came out and the results were better than expected considering most of the winter visitors have left, the migrants are mostly holed up to the south of us waiting for a break in the weather. We saw 47 species of birds today.
The disappointment of the day was not finding the Tundra Swan at Doll’s SR. However, some of the finer moments of the day were seeing our first Eastern Meadowlark of the year, watching a kettle of 11 flying Bald Eagles, and experiencing a very large display of Snow Buntings that repeatedly landed right beside us and put on a ground and arial performance that we all loved.
In the thank you department, we would like to thank James for doing the ground work for organizing where were going today; to Pat and Barb for sharing their great birding grounds; for Bonnie for taking us in at the last moment; and also to Margaret for keeping the list for us.
The weather got progressively warmer as the day went on, starting from about - 5 C and progressing to about + 10 C. The skies were mostly sunny. The winds were moderate.
Take care,
Fred
