Kincardine

More rare birds show up at the Kincardine Lagoons than any other place in the vicinity. With the combination of field, forest, water and landfill the possibilities are enormous. Waterfowl and the occasional shorebird enjoy the privacy of the fenced ponds. In winter it is usual to see 1500 to 2000 gulls gathered here. Some rarities seen at this site are Ross's Goose, Eurasian Wigeon, Summer tanager, Hooded Warbler, Tufted Titmouse, Lark Sparrow and 7 gull species including Iceland, Glaucous and Black Tern. Best of all is during the spring migration when for a few days the trees abound with warblers, tanagers, orioles, grosbeaks and more. At the peek of migration may 12th 2011 I counted 74 different species just at this one site .Two of the most popular accesses are by way of the cemetery or Saratoga Road. If you bring seeds with you the local chickadees will come right to your hand. This site offers easy walking on well maintained trails.
