Hi Everyone,
We had a great day birding with Stew and Beverly filling in with the flu ridden Doug. Thank you to Stew and Beverly for taking this on and preparing us for a good day with all of the scouting you did beforehand. Doug, we sincerely hope you recover and join us soon. There were 23 of us out today and we saw 38 species which is not bad for this time of year and the fact we were concentrating on waterfowl.
We had an exciting finish finding 10 Scoters at the Rive Mouth and a Redhead. With that note we all finished with smiles and laughs. The major controversy of the day was who identified that that Blue Waxwing sitting in a very distant tree. More laughs.
The bird of the day was the Brant found at the Wiarton Harbor. (Good scouting!) The suspense of the moment was when the the American Crow chased off the Brant with us wondering if it would return and let us enjoy its presence. The Brant took off came right back and carried on as if nothing happened. So eat crow, American Crow.
The temperature started at 1 C, and went up to 8 C by the end of the day. It was mostly cloudy, with some fog and sun at intervals, The wind was negligible and moderate at times.
