Baie du Dore is overshadowed by the Bruce Nuclear Station. Heated outflows of water from the station allow birds to overwinter here. Often there are several eagles on the ice flows and in the winter of 2010 a roost of 47 Bald Eagles was seen. The bay offers a variety of habitats including marsh, shallow water, rock outcroppings . Rafts of mixed ducks shelter in the bay and the coastal forest can get hopping with spring migrants. In May 2011 three White Pelicans made a brief stopover. The inner bay has some sandy shore where an occasional shorebird can be found. Short-eared Owls hunt over the barren tundra like flats. One of the the rarest sighting was of a Black-headed Gull in 2000. A large section at the bottom of the 6th con has just been donated from Ontario hydro to become parkland.
ACCESS; The bay has two main access points. The 6th concession of Kincardine ends at the inner bay and is the only sandy area. The Institute Dock can be accessed from Institute road at the bottom of the 8th.
