Each year, the Bruce Birding club have a day of birding that starts at Berford Lake, and ends in a pot luck BBQ there, before we take a break for the summer. The fun begins when participants[ in groups] are assigned a trip to several birding hotspots, and at each spot is a picture and an associated quiz. Needless to say, we also record any feathered creature seen anywhere else during our trip to find the hotspots and their clues. This year however, we also celebrated Fred Jazvac, who is retiring after 20 years leading the Bruce birding club. Each hotspot therefore featured a picture of Fred photoshopped onto a bird we should correctly identify, but we were to give the photoshopped bird a new name associated with Fred. Thank you to chef Doug Pedwell, for all the work in planning the birding trip hotspots, giving us directions and reminders. Thank you also to Nancy White and Stew Nutt for their very large part in organizing this wonderful time celebrating Fred. A kind thank you to Margaret and Ian Anderton for their assistance with setting up and BBQ and to all the attendees for their sense of fun and camaraderie.

Our group was led by James Turland, joined by Becky Grieveson, Bill and Janet Hatten, Bruce Edmunds and Liz Addison, Marshall Byle, Marilyn Ohler and of course the celebrated Fred Jazvac. We enjoyed mixed cloud and sun, slight winds and temperatures of around 20 degrees. Certainly ideal weather for bird watching. While this report is for James group, there were at least 5 other groups out on the southern Saugeen Bruce Peninsula and who knows perhaps a lot more birds. Our best bird of the day in my opinion was a White-winged Scoter, picked up by Marshall at Colpoy's bay.

The following is a collective list of all the birds seen today by all groups.
