Thank you, Doug, for taking us on a busy, well planned and ambitious day. Doug kept us moving, covering a large, area, from Base Du Dore to Wiarton, focusing on mostly waterfowl. A characteristic of Doug’s hikes is they always show a lot of effort and thought in planning. Thank you for creating an enjoyable day for us, Doug.
We opened the hike with a nice surprise of car stopping flock of Snow Geese and Greater White-fronted Geese on Concession 6. Migratory White-winged Scoters were found at the Sauble River Mouth, and at the Wiarton Lagoons, where we had a nice opportunity to compare Greater Scaup and Lesser Scaup, as they intermingled. Northern Harriers and Rough-legged Hawks, including one dark phase, put on a much appreciated show for us. A lone, chilled Belted Kingfisher did a fly pass, and by they end of the day, we saw 43 species of birds. Not bad for a November day, eh!
The day was chilled with brisk winds, cloudy skies and temperatures of 9 C.
Thank you, Mary-Anne for keeping the bird list for us.
Take care,
Fred
