Hi Everyone,

What a a great day it was. By the end of the day, we had 13 species of shorebirds, collected from 4 wetland areas. The last shorebird of the day was a Black-bellied Plover that was seen by the end of the day, in a field close to Underwood. Thank you, Bob and Anne-Marie for showing us that species. The Stilt Sandpiper, a very desirable and hard to come by bird was seen in each of the wetland areas we visited today. It must have been a peak migration day for them. While they were few in numbers, they seemed to be everywhere. The tough to find and identify Baird’s Sandpiper was also seen in 3 places during our day,.

Thank you, Eric, for once again leading us to the West Perth Wetlands, and for taking us to Harrington today, which has been recently damned, and is staring to reveal its mudflats. This formerly concludes our three shorebird excursions to Mitchell under the leadership of Eric, to whom we once again owe our gratitude for sharing his expertise and knowledge of shorebirds. By the time we arrive to go birding with him, Eric knows what birds are there, and where in the West Perth Wetlands, we will find them. That anticipation is always a nice way to star your birding day.

Temperature was about 27 C, sunny, with stiff winds at times.

Thank you Margaret for keeping the bird tallies for us. Your work is much appreciated.

Take care,

Fred
