Well it was a warm today with temperatures ranging between 25 and 29 degrees with high humidity. Some how the heat made it seem that progress in finding birds was slow but our leaders, Doug and Stew kept us moving locating birds for us. Thank you to both of you for the great hospitality that we enjoyed in the pot luck that you organized. We finished our spring season with 77 birds species seen on the day. Also, thank you to Margaret for keeping track of the birds listed.
The best bird of the day was the Cerulean Warbler seen at Malcolm Bluffs. The bird gave us reasonable looks, provided lifers for some of our members and added a new bird to the life list of the BBC. Another highlight was seeing the tiny just born 3 Piping Plovers at Sauble Beach. We also got the Purple Martins which we seem never to get on our annual yearly list even though they are easily found at Port Elgin harbour. Thank you to Mary Rapati for pointing that missing bird out to us.
Thank you to all of you for providing the great food and drink at the pot luck and the friendliness that you all bring when we get together. Thanks also to John for the great clarinet playing at the pot luck. And more thanks to Nancy White and Peter Richards for their efforts in preparing the pot luck while the rest of us were birding.
The next outing will be in late August with the focus shifting to shore birds. The dates of the fall season will be announced some time in August. Have a great summer everyone and we'll see on the streets or in August.
Take care,
Fred
