Hi Everyone,
We had a great day at the West Perth Wetlands ( formerly the Mitchell Sewage Lagoons), arriving with the goal of trying to get into the shorebird migration. Through Eric leadership, we were very successful in achieving that goal. We saw 13 shorebirds species which included both Stilt and Baird’s Sandpipers. Another bird that drew attention was an immature Sora Rail which can be seen in the previously sent email with photos by Bob . The Stilt Sandpiper was also sent out in that email. By the end of the day we saw 44 species of birds with most of them coming from the lagoons area.
Thank you, Eric, who assisted by Steve, provided us with a day filled with great birding opportunities. They scouted the lagoons just prior to our arrival, announced what we would see and then re found the birds again for us. They also provided great tips, in how to separate these birds. A special thank you to, Eric who has taken on leading all four of our weekly scheduled hikes in August. What a great start, Eric!
The high for the day was about 18 C. with a good mix of sun and cloud that provided great views of the birds. The winds were light.
