Spring passerine migrants were few with the Golden-crowned Kinglet, Brown Creeper. Vesper Sparrow and Yellow-rumped Warbler exciting us the most. 62 species were seen.
We were led to an interesting find at the Port Rowan Harbour when Fritz the Fisherman alerted us to the decapitated heads of American Coots towards the far end of the dock. Looking over the heads, we thought one was also a Ruddy Duck. There were heads and legs and some gullets a few feathers but few body parts - raccoons or taken to a birds nest? He wanted to know what was doing this. We theorized that it was a Great Horned Owl picking off the sleeping American Coots. We found some owl pellets on the dock and that which backed our conclusion. We also suspected a Bald Eagle. Raptors usually behead their prey before eating and taking it to their nests.
The weather was a high of 16 C, mixedx clouds but windy with gusts threatening our scopes.
Lunch at Bird Studies Canada Building and supper at Anna May's In Millbank
