HI BBC; On May 1st the BBC under the leadership of Doug Pedwell visited the mid-bruce peninsula. First stop was Carlson Lake, accessed from the community center parking area. A trail only slightly elevated from lake level led to a swampy boardwalk. We heard Swamp Sparrows and a Winter Wren. An osprey carrying a fish was seen near its nest. At the Sauble River a few early warblers picked bugs off cottage roofs while Caspian Terns patrolled the waters edges. Driving the Olliphant shore we saw Common Terns and Cormorants. At Sky Lake we heard the whinnies and a few got glimpses of Sora Rails. The Tree Swallows at Issac Lake were totally absorbed in claiming nest boxes as we observed from closeup. While we ate lunch at Wiarton Harbor an alert came in that a Tricolored Heron had been refound. Without hesitation BBC returned to Sky Lake for looks at our second BBC lifer of this year. The heron was initially far out but then approached us in two fights ending at closer islands. Made us enjoy the sighting all the more knowing our presence was of little concern to it. After that excitement we went to Doug's and saw Sapsuckers, Bluebirds and several Sparrow species. Thanks so much to Doug for planning and leading the day's hike. Thanks so much to Marilyn for keeping the eBird list. Following is a list of the 72 species seen for a more detailed account of where and when the birds were seen check out Marilyn's Trip Report. https://ebird.org/tripreport/229436

Bird of the day, originally found by Jarmo Jalava yesterday, refound today by Lynn Richardson who sent us the alert. This is only the second time a Tricolored Heron has been recorded in Bruce County.
