HI Everyone,
We had a great day today! James did a wonderful job of taking us to the right places to get some difficult to find birds. His two target birds for the day were the Hudsonian Godwit and the Long-billed Dowitcher, and it was mission accomplished to the delight of everyone. Our shore bird list for the year continues to grow and the Hudsonian Godwit, the Long-billed Dowitcher, White-rumped Sandpiper and Dunlin, added to its quality. The attainable shorebirds birds for the year we seem to be missing are, the Purple Sandpiper (we usually get that species on our Niagara trip) and perhaps Sanderling. The area falcon family showed up in its entirety for us; we got all three. - American Kestrel, Merlin and Peregrine Falcon. The Peregrine put on a good show as he seemed to be chasing both us as and a meal at the same time. The American Pipits tried to disguise their presence, but we did sneak in a few looks. The waterfowl migration is now on its way with us seeing 14 species. Total of 55 species for the day
Thank you, James for providing a great, well organized day for us. Your enthusiasm was infectious and we reciprocated with our excitement over the birds you found for us.
The temperature had a high of about 15 C., with mostly cloudy skies and winds picking up late in the afternoon.
Take care,
Fred
